Cyclists Fight Cancer
More than 20 Astellas employees rode their bikes in a fundraising event to fight cancer. The annual 100, 62, 42, or 20-mile bike ride is one of the largest fundraising efforts for childhood cancer and related blood disorder research in the United States. With just under 3,000 riders, the ride raised more than $1 million. One Astellas employee alone brought in an impressive $6,500. In 19 years, the event has contributed $7.2 million to support research thanks to riders who acquire pledges per mile they ride, the sponsors and the volunteers. Five of the more than 20 Astellas riders completed the long, 100-mile route and two even rode a tandem bike.
